Who and what do we regulate? The Division of Consumer Services regulates mortgage brokers and companies, consumer lending companies, check cashers and check sellers. Certain entities are exempt from our jurisdiction, but may be covered by federal or other state jurisdiction. If you are unsure of the jurisdiction, you may file a complaint using our form and we will attempt to determine what agency, if any, has jurisdiction over your issue.
The Division generally has authority to investigate and attempt resolution for issues involving consumers and our regulated industries. The Division holds only limited authority to investigate and resolve complaints of a commercial nature (e.g. rental properties, business to business transactions, etc.). If you or your property reside outside of the State of Washington, our authority and remedies may also be limited.
