Escrow Agent Fraud Alerts
The following is a list of companies and websites that have come to the Division of Consumer Services attention as escrow agents that claim to be located in Washington State, or associated with a company that claims to be located in Washington State. Some are reportedly offering independent escrow services. These companies may be involved in various escrow-related frauds. None of the entities are licensed by the Division of Consumer Services as escrow agents and there is no indication that they are authorized to do business in this state.
Please note that these companies have names that are similar and sometimes identical to those of reputable companies that are licensed to conduct escrow activities in Washington State.
Use DFI's Licensee Database or email us to determine if an escrow agent is licensed in the state of Washington. Check with the Better Business Bureau, state attorney general or consumer protection agency — where you live and where the online payment or escrow service is based — to see whether any unresolved complaints are on file against the service.
This list is not intended to be all-inclusive and should not be an indicator that you are dealing with a reputable company if the name of the company is not on the list.
