Tips To Expedite MLO Applications
These are several things you can do to expedite your MLO application.
- Ensure you file a completed application from the beginning. The less back and forth which has to occur, the faster the application can be processed.
- Monitor your NMLS account for deficiencies to be posted. DFI posts deficiencies usually within two business days of the application filing.
Why Applications Are Delayed
Below are the most common reasons why the processing of a MLO application is delayed.
- Failure to complete 2 hours of pre-licensing education covering Washington Law. Unless you take a 20 hour course with Washington in the title, you must take a separate 2 hour PE course covering Washington Law.
- Applicant does not follow up with the fingerprint vendor to have his or her fingerprints taken.
- New Application checklist is not faxed or emailed to DFI per the instructions.
- Company fails to submit a Sponsorship Request for Mortgage Loan Originator License. If applicant wants an inactive license, this does not need to happen.
- MLO is related to an office beyond reasonable commute distance from residence.
- Company’s surety bond isn’t the right type to cover how the MLO is compensated. This is only applicable for Mortgage Broker companies.
DFI expects licensees to meet high ethical and performance standards. Often consumers' money is in your hands. Attention to detail and the law is a requirement for licensees and it starts with the licensing application.
